About

Philosophy

At LOPFA, we believe that innovation emerges from the intersection of ideas, disciplines, and backgrounds. For this reason, the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are integrated into every stage of our work.
Our goal is not only to produce knowledge, but also to apply it to major industrial and societal challenges. We aim to question existing frameworks, explore new approaches, and develop technically sound, useful, and responsible solutions.
The environment we foster encourages clear communication, critical thinking, and respect for high-quality work. We value people’s commitment as much as the quality of the tools we use, in order to train individuals capable of acting thoughtfully in complex environments. This philosophy guides each of our decisions and every project at LOPFA.

History

The Laboratory for the Optimization of Advanced Manufacturing Processes, more commonly known as LOPFA, was founded in 2006 by Professor Philippe Bocher. Originally composed of only a small group of students and researchers, the laboratory gradually expanded and now includes around forty members throughout the year. Its growth was first marked by the arrival of Professor Vincent Demers’ research group in 2015, followed by those of Elmira Moosavi and Lucas Hof in 2024. Through this synergy of expertise, LOPFA has strengthened its ability to address a wide range of needs within the metals industry.
